So finally a positive not on the Conficker worm. Although the hackers who launched the conficker may seem in control, its looking like things might be under control. Just yesterday a scanner came to the rescue. We'll see how it does. Whatever you do, protect your computers from this worm in any way possible. In summary, the conficker is targeted to you Windows operating system. As of now, you should be safe with a mac, or anything else really. The worm works by by secretly installing itself in a random location, giving itself a random name, and booting up upon a restart of your operating system. The main effect of the worm is that it disables essential features such as Windows Updates, Windows Error Reporting, and Windows Defender. So get out there and research the patches and get on the bandwagon before your computers get taken over by the conficker.
Actually, if you're one of the 10 million people already infected by the Conficker worm, then you know it's already here. Conficker is a computer worm that effectively disables security settings on Windows computers and turns the computers into zombies, capable of transmitting private information, passwords, financial information, etc. to whoever is running the host computer (there's a $350,000 bounty on the head of Conficker's creator right now). Australian security expert, Trend Micro, is offering free protection against Conficker. The worm is anticipated to be activated and control infected computers on April 1 and there are many who have yet to take action. Don't be one of them.
